Purpose
To help men grow in their assurance of salvation and fellowship with Christ by studying 1 John together, applying its truths personally, and encouraging one another toward greater maturity in Christ.
Description
John wrote his first letter so that believers might “know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). Throughout the letter, John points us to what we believe about Christ, how we walk in obedience, and how we love one another as evidence of genuine fellowship with God.
Using Thadeus Bergmeier’s Secure in Jesus: A Study in the Book of 1 John, we’ll work through the entire letter together and consider what it teaches about knowing Christ, assurance of salvation, obedience, love, discernment, and genuine spiritual life.
This study is designed to be more than completing a workbook. You will study the assigned passage and lesson beforehand. When we meet, we’ll discuss what we’ve learned, apply God’s Word to our lives, pray for one another, and encourage one another toward greater maturity in Christ.
